title: "Legal entities"
description: "Legal entities"
---

Under Settings → Legal entities, an admin models the organisation's real registered legal entities (headquarters + subsidiaries). The feature is enabled per organization and is off by default.

**Default language and default currency** for the whole organisation are set at the top of the panel. These are used as a fallback whenever a legal entity has no currency of its own (e.g. if the entity's country has no known currency in the system).

**The headquarters** ("HQ") is the one legal entity that carries the organisation's address and organisation number (Swedish "organisationsnummer"). There is always exactly one headquarters entity — it is auto-created (defaulting to Sweden) the first time the panel is opened if none exists yet. Address and organisation number are edited directly in the panel. Every legal entity can also have its own organisation number, edited in the entity's edit dialog. The number is checked for the entity's country: in Sweden 10 digits (NNNNNN-NNNN) with a valid check digit, in Denmark an 8-digit CVR number, in Norway a 9-digit organisation number, in Finland a business ID (Y-tunnus, 1234567-8) and in Poland a 10-digit NIP — the last three with a valid check digit. An entity without a number is marked **Org. no. missing** in the list. The number is prefilled in the annual pay-equity evidence.

**Full-time week.** A legal entity can have its own full-time week in hours (for example 37 hours in a Danish entity), used for hourly pay for the entity's employees. If the field is left empty, the organisation's default applies; it is set next to the default language and currency (40 hours if nothing is set). The value must be above 0 and at most 60.

**Legal entities** are listed below with name, country, and derived values for currency, language and timezone. Each field is automatically derived from the chosen country:
- **Currency**: the country's currency, otherwise the organisation's default currency.
- **Language**: the country's language if the app has a translation for it (today Swedish or English), otherwise English.
- **Timezone**: the country's timezone.

Any field can be **overridden** manually (e.g. a subsidiary that still invoices in EUR) — an override is marked in the list and is not affected if the country is later changed.

**Only one headquarters** entity can exist at a time — trying to designate a second one is blocked server-side. **Delete is guarded**: the headquarters entity can never be deleted (designate another entity as headquarters first), an entity with sub-entities cannot be deleted until they are moved or removed, and an entity that still has at least one employee assigned to it (see "Legal entity" on an employee's edit card) cannot be deleted either — reassign those employees to a different entity first.

**Employee assignment:** every employee can optionally be linked to exactly one legal entity (the "Legal entity" field on the edit card, or the "LEGAL ENTITY" column on CSV import/export) — independent of which department or team they belong to. This link powers the org chart's legal-entity filter.

**Legal profile.** Each entity shows which legal profile its annual pay-equity evidence follows: Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Poland, EU baseline or no legal profile. Normally the profile follows the country. An administrator (not a delegated role) can choose the profile by hand with the **Legal profile** button, for example for a branch that follows another country's law. A reason is required, the change is recorded in the audit log and the entity is marked **Chosen manually**. Choose **From the country** to remove the choice.
