The Keepers Test

The Keepers Test

The Keepers Test (Netflix’s “Keeper Test”) is a tool for managers to periodically answer a simple but uncomfortable question for each employee: “If this person told me they were leaving for a similar role elsewhere tomorrow, would I fight hard to keep them?” The point is to surface quiet under-performance or flight risk before it’s too late — it is NOT a replacement for a performance review or 1:1.

When the feature is enabled for your organization, you see a team overview of every employee in your scope, each with their most recent verdict shown as a colored chip: green (“Yes — a keeper”), yellow (“Not sure”), or red (“No — would not fight to keep them”). An employee with no assessment yet is shown with a neutral chip, so gaps stay visible rather than being hidden.

Click “Assess” on an employee to record a new assessment (a verdict plus an optional note on why) and see that person’s full assessment history. Every new assessment is added separately — a prior assessment is never overwritten, so you can see how your read on someone changes over time.

Both managers and Admins can use this feature. A manager may only assess employees within their own org-tree subtree or their direct/indirect reports — the same scope a manager already has for every other employee-data feature. An Admin may assess anyone in the organization.

Important: an assessment is a manager’s private, honest judgment — the same as an internal performance note. The assessed employee can NEVER see their own assessments, either in the app or via a data export of their own information.
