Variable pay (bonus/commission)
Variable pay (bonus/commission)
When the Variable pay feature is enabled for your organization, you can record an employee’s bonuses, commissions and other variable pay as a list of entries under the Recurring compensations & bonuses section on the Salary tab of the employee’s detail page — separate from base salary and salary history. Each entry has a type (Bonus, Commission or Other), an amount, a period (a year, e.g. “2026”, or a quarter, e.g. “2026-Q1”), and an optional note. An employee can have several entries in the same year.
Only administrators can add, edit or delete variable pay entries. Delete an entry with the delete button (confirmation required).
Variable pay never replaces base salary — it’s always additive. On the analysis pages it only affects the pay-gap analysis if you actively check the “Include variable pay” box (see the Group Insights article); otherwise base salary alone is shown. This year’s entries are summed and divided by 12, so a SEK 12,000 bonus this year counts as SEK 1,000/month. Exception: the EU report’s pay quartiles, its variable-pay section and hourly pay always include variable pay.
An employee without a valid base salary (missing, blank, zero or invalid) is never included in the pay comparison, even when variable pay is included — a bonus cannot stand in for a missing base salary. The Salary Mapping pages show how many employees were left out for that reason.
